On 23 August 2025, the Chemistry Program, School of Science, Walailak University, hosted the Chem Fest Open House 2025. An engaging and inspiring event designed to warmly welcome first-year students. The event offered an opportunity for newcomers to gain more profound insights into the Chemistry Program while also sparking inspiration to further their knowledge and explore future career paths.
The event featured a variety of activities, with key highlights including the introduction of three exciting chemistry minors:
1️⃣ Sustainable Chemical Materials – focusing on developing and designing innovative materials that address environmental challenges and promote efficient resource use.
2️⃣ Computational Chemistry – integrating chemical knowledge with advanced computational technology for accurate analysis and prediction of molecular properties.
3️⃣ Chemical Design – offering students the chance to create innovative products and applications grounded in chemical principles.
Faculty members showcased their cutting-edge research projects alongside the minors, many of which have found application in industry and local communities. Studies in renewable energy, biobased materials, and chemical products for health and beauty were among the examples. These projects highlighted the vital role of chemists in driving scientific innovation, industry growth, and socio-economic development.
The event also featured fun games and interactive activities organized by second- and third-year chemistry students. These not only fostered bonding between new students and seniors but also filled the event with joy, laughter, and small prizes for all participants.
This successful event was made possible through the collaboration of faculty members, academic staff, and senior students, who dedicated their efforts to ensuring that freshmen gained knowledge, experiences, and a warm sense of belonging. It showcased how the chemistry program goes beyond theoretical teaching by cultivating skills in research, innovation, and teamwork.
Ultimately, Chem Fest Open House 2025 was not just an academic orientation but also a platform for learning, inspiration, and building the strong community spirit of chemistry at Walailak University, united in advancing science for the future.
