Master of Science – Plan A1 (Research only)

Admission to the Master of Science – Plan A1 is open to students who have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, or close equivalent one with the following minimum prerequisites:

  • A cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 or equivalent;
  • A cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 or equivalent and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 in the major or related field of study;
  • Approved by the postgraduate program committee

 

Master of Science – Plan A2 (Course Work and Research)

Admission to the Master of Science – Plan A2 is open to students who have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, or close equivalent one with the following minimum prerequisites:

  • A cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 or equivalent;
  • A cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 or equivalent and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 in the major or related field of study;
  • A cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 and work experience in related fields of study for at least 1 year with a recommendation letter from the workplace or the supervisor;
  • Approved by the postgraduate program committee

 

Master of Science (Chemistry) structure

Candidates for the Degree of Master of Science shall follow a parts-based course of study, which shall consist of totaling at least 12-course units, comprising:

  • Part One and Part Two as defined by the Schedule to the Degree

  • Completion of a Subject

 

Requirements

Plan A1
Total credits to the value of 12-course units normally consisting the only thesis. Candidates may complete a subject by passing at least 12-course units in a subject including:

  • A thesis of 12-course units;
  • At least 2-course units (not counting the credits), 1 course unit of two Scientific Writing course and 1 course unit of Seminar.

Plan A2
Total credits to the value of 12-course units normally consisting of taught courses and thesis. Candidates may complete a subject by passing at least 12-course units in a subject including:

  • A thesis of at 6-course units;
  • At least 6-course units, including where identified in the Schedule to the Degree and, and 1-course unit of two Scientific Writing course (not counting the credit) and any compulsory papers.

Selective courses (3-course units)

  • At least 3 crouse units from sub-section e.g. Inorganic, Organic, Analytical or Physical Chemistry.
