29th May – 6th June 2018, Dr Guillaume Chastanet, the Director of research of the Switchable Molecules and Materials group, Institut de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Bordeaux (ICMCB), Université Bordeaux and CNRS researchers visited Functional Materials and Nanotechnology Center of Excellence (FuNTech). This visit is one of activities which have been supported by the two years Franco-Thai Mobility Programme.
This project is based on the complementarity of two internationally renowned groups. The FuNTech group located in Walailak University, Thailand is specialized in the synthesis of original and appealing Fe(III) spin crossover systems exhibiting room temperature memory effects and multistep spin crossover. The ICMCB group in France has developed expertise both in the photoswitching of spin crossover compounds but also the magnetic and crystallographic investigations of pressure effects. Gathering these two expertise in the same project will allow scientific breakthroughs on this thematic regarding photo- and piezo-switching of spin crossover properties of Fe(III) materials.
Both partners have already collaborated periodically in the last few years. This project not only aims at reinforce this collaboration and the link between France and Thailand, but also to share and train permanent and students staffs on specific techniques.
In this first visit the ICMCB researchers gave lectures on Spin Crossover and Photoswitching (Dr. Dr Guillaume Chastanet), Crystallography applied to Spin Crossover (Assoc. Prof. Mathieu Marchivie), Pressure Effects on Spin Crossover (Dr. Patrick Rosa) and Molecular Electronics (Dr. Mathieu Gonidec) to FuNTech researchers, postgraduate students in Physics and Chemistry programs, lecturers from Thammasat University and Rangsit University. Furthermore, the potential help in the implementation of techniques to Fe(III) spin crossover studies has been discussed and arranged.
